This book presents and defends a comprehensive theory of epistemic defeaters. It carefully examines the main types of defeaters and incorporates them into a broader framework designed to explain how beliefs lose their justification. The argument is made that defeaters create incompatibilities within a noetic system, triggering a structured re-evaluation process that ultimately makes the justified reinstatement of the defeated belief impossible.
