The British in India first got onto confrontation with the Gurkhas in 1814 during First Anglo Gurkha War. However the foes turned into friends when the Brirish found endearing and soldierly traits of Gurkhas, which they respected and the bond continues to thrive till date. India has it's own legendry warriors, but Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, fondly known as 'Sam Bahadur' was Colonel of the Gurkha Regiment was one of them. He epitomized Gurkhas by his famous quote 'If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha'. Includes bibliographical references and index.
